Reflexology and Diabetes

How insulin works.png

Diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects the pancreas’ role in metabolism. Diabetes inhibits the pancreas of producing any or insufficient amounts of insulin to control your blood glucose levels. Glucose is what gives us energy from our food.

Reflexology aims to stimulate the pressure points on the feet which encourages the body to find balance.

To find balance the body may be stimulated to improve blood circulation of the body and encourage the organs to function optimally. When your organs function optimally metabolism can be increased allowing for the body to use the energy it receives effectively increasing the effectiveness of eliminating the waste products.

An effect of diabetes is diabetic neuropathy, which is when there is nerve damage often in the legs and feet. It is unknown what causes the neuropathy but some believe that high blood sugar levels play a role. The mild symptom is experiencing pain and numbness in the lower extremities. Reflexology stimulates the 7000 nerve endings in the feet which could help ease the pain by soothing the nerves.

A reflexologist is only an agent to the body for providing pressure to the reflexes on the feet, most of the real change comes about from the client adapting to a healthier way of living. By regularly having reflexology treatments the client can become aware of the sensitivities they feel in the session to what their diet was in the days before the session.

Reflexology is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace medical treatment.

It is a complementary therapy to help the body find balance within its capabilities.
