A Therapeutic Massage Appointment

Your first therapeutic massage appointment.

In the reception room:

When you enter the practice, you will be greeted by one of the therapists and asked to complete a client card. This is to gain necessary information about your lifestyle, where your pain is and if you have any conditions which we need to be cautious about. The client card also acts as a consent form to therapy and that you understand our cancellation policy.

You will also be asked to fill out a COVID-19 form to disclose that your temperature has been taken and that you do not have the virus.

Your therapist will then introduce herself, if she wasn’t the first to greet you, and she will guide you into the therapy room.

The therapy room:

Your therapist will invite you to take a seat and proceed with the consultation. She will ask questions specific to your condition and to gain knowledge of past injuries, accidents or surgeries which may have impacted the current condition.

The therapist will then do muscle tests that are linked to your concern to determine your range of motion and to ensure that she is able to treat your condition or if you need to be referred to a specialist. She will also check your alignment to work out a treatment plan.

Once this is determined the therapist will instruct you on what garments need to be removed and how to lie on the massage table. She will then leave the room for your privacy.

Once you are comfortable on the bed the therapist will begin with treatment. Depending on your concern she will start with some fascia release as a warm up, effleurage over the areas as a warm up, and may start trigger point therapy. A therapeutic massage requires a lot of engagement between the client and therapist in order to achieve the best possible results. You can expect to feel some discomfort during the session as we work out the trigger points and tight spots however we will work to your pain tolerance.

After the session

Once your session is done the therapist will run through what was achieved during the session and go trough the same muscle tests to see if there was improvement. She will leave the room to let you get changed. Once you have dressed the therapist will come back to the room to guide you through your home care on how to maintain the results achieved in the session. She will explain the treatment plan going forward, whether she needs you to re-book for follow up session in a week or in two weeks. We usually suggest 3 to 4 weekly sessions at the start to gain best results. However, every person and condition is different and therefore you will be advised according to your condition and on how your body responds to therapy.

Once you have your home care advice you will leave the therapy room and pay for your session. We accept card or cash. If you prefer a non-contact method we will send you a Yoco payment link to be paid within 24 hours of your session. We will then re-book you to your needs and we will try be as accommodating to your diary as possible.

Post treatment:

It is expected that your muscles may feel tender and tired for a day or two after your therapy session. This is perfectly normal and you should feel a lot better after the two day period. We will follow up after your session to see how your body reacted to therapy and if the treatment plan needs to be adjusted.
